Horizontal stripes and folded denim are no longer just for sailors. This season, the breezy nautical look is in and is making a splash in countries all around the world. This trend is perfect for the hot summer season and adds fun and spontaneity after a spring season dominated by florals. The defining look for this trend? Thin, horizontal stripes that alternate between blue and white. Seen on dresses, shorts and flowy tops, this pattern is flattering for most skin tones. However, on body types that are more top-heavy, these stripes could exaggerate your width. In these cases, work vertical stripes. This allows you to take advantage of the same trend, while flattering your figure. Denim also works great in nautical outfits. Try looser fitted rolled up shorts and complete the look with a neutral sun hat. A look perfect for hitting the beach? We think so.

Inspired by free spirits and bohemians around the globe, boho chic is comfortable, stylish and absolutely perfect for summer. Brave patterns, flowy skirts and large hobo bags define this trend. Big totes with ambitious prints are perfect for the beach and are large enough to carry everything that you need. Long, elastic waisted ruffle skirts are flirty and fun, especially with neat prints and patterns. They’re ideal for wearing over your swimsuit as well. Finish your outfit with a nice breezy top and some earthy accessories. Gold hoop earrings match most boho outfits perfectly. Experiment with patterns and most of all, have fun. After all, that’s what a boho summer is all about.

It’s not a secret in the fashion world that Karl Lagerfeld likes to keep things fresh.

Head designer of Chanel, Lagerfeld unveiled his cruise collection for 2010/2011 in the town of St. Tropez, France on Tuesday. Transforming the road into a catwalk, models decked in flowing beach wear cruised down the streets as a star studded audience watched from famous tea room and patisserie, the Sénèquier.

With the weather giving its full cooperation, the upbeat energy of the show was contagious. The Rolling Stones blasted through the speakers during key moments of the program, a fitting tribute to the fact that St. Tropez was where Mick Jagger and wife Bianca got married in 1971. Models arrived in motorboats and began their casual struts down the makeshift runway with ease and style. Accessorized with patchwork bags, silver sandals and bright nail polish, the audience was delighted by Lagerfeld’s fresh beach collection.

Well known onlookers included Diane Kruger, Vanessa Paradis and Gaspard Ulliel, the poster boy for Chanel’s newest men’s fragrance. The collection drew inspiration from the 70s, using metallic colours and flares to create a modern version of the free spirit. Floral maxi dresses in summer shades and frilled tunics added a feminine touch to the collection, whereas high waisted hot pants, bleached denim and gypsy skirts added a significant edge.

Among other noticeable garments were high waisted dresses, flowy blouses, bikinis, micro-minis and the revival of the ‘cage dress’, worn over black and white swimwear. Some models graced the asphalt runway with bare feet, while others opted for sleek gladiators and metallic sandals.

The finale of the show was greeted with rapturous applause from the audience. As a true homage to Brigette Bardot, Georgia May Jagger (Mick’s youngest daughter) rode in on a roaring Harley Davidson, dressed in a beige babydoll dress and thigh high boots. Fittingly, the Rolling Stones’ ‘Let’s Spend the Night Together’ blared through the speakers as the spectacle came to an end. It is safe to say however, Karl Lagerfeld gave St. Tropez a show that they will not forget for a very long time.

The 2010/2011 Chanel Cruise collection will be on sale starting November.

As élise Editor in Chief I would love to thank each of you for reading!

I just came back from a fab time in New York where I was at many meetings held at the one and only Conde Nast. It was wonderful learning from the best as to how fashion is the root of many different things. Consider your perfume. Did you know that the people who research perfume and scent trend forecasting look at art, media, news, and fashion to forecast what YOU will want to wear in the next six months?

Have a TERRIFIC day and I will stop by and give more interesting facts soon.

Many blessings!
Susan
